About British Polo Day

British Polo Days are held regularly in Abu Dhabi, China, Russia, Germany, France, Singapore, Thailand , Mexico, India and of course, Great Britain. Expect to see BPD in Australia, South Africa, Brazil, South Korea and America soon.

The story of British Polo Day is a call to action by a young dynamic team keen to ensure that Britain projects its values and identity in an increasingly overcrowded international space. The Founders chose polo as the vehicle to do this, they recognised the horse as an international language capable of bridging cultures.

Global enthusiasm for the British narrative has been raised by The Royal Wedding and subsequent birth of Prince George, the Diamond Jubilee and our Olympic year, since everyone has been talking about cementing the legacy of the Games and promoting ‘Great’ Britain. It is this spirit that British Polo Day takes forward.

Although the ancient sport of polo began in Persia and China many centuries ago, the British reinvented the modern game in the nineteenth century. Sir Winston Churchill, one of the greatest proponents of the game, once famously said "a polo handicap is a passport to the world" and polo is still thriving everywhere it is played. Each British Polo Day event features British polo players from some of Britain’s leading institutions such as Eton, Harrow, Oxford, Cambridge and The British Army who compete head to head with local teams. Over 100 top players have played at British Polo Days.

The aim of a British Polo Day is to continue the tradition of playing high quality amateur polo against friends in host countries, while also acting as a platform for British businesses in emerging markets, giving them intravenous access to the global elite. This shared love of the sport is used to open doors and build a network of diplomatic and commercial opportunities to showcase great British brands and use British Polo Day as a conduit for projecting craft and heritage in emerging markets. Over 30 British luxury brands have partnered with the British Polo Day to create the dream British Luxury Brand Experience. For example, British Polo Days have celebrated British identity and culture with galas on The Great Wall of China and Fashion Shows on the top of Rajhastani Palaces.

The success of the British Polo Days has been largely down to word-of-mouth endorsement from many guests and supporters including key figures in government, the aristocracy, diplomats, military, fashion and popular culture. In addition, British Polo Days have hosted 12 royal families and over 10,000 members of the global elite in the last two years and have secured international media coverage, including The Financial Times, The Robb Report, CNN, Tatler, Harper’s Bazaar, China Central Television, Russia Today, Finches Quarterly Review and Vogue China, totalling more than £5m of media coverage.

The British Polo Day team is also very proud of its philanthropic efforts. In countries all over the world, polo has a long history of raising significant funding for worthy causes. Wherever possible, British Polo Day is entirely committed to bringing to bear the full weight of its partners, network and creative talent to this end. In partnership with the host family or Club in each case, British Polo Day divides the fundraising proceeds from every international leg equally between local and British Charities. In so doing, the ties between two nations are reinforced further through shared charitable ambitions. Over £250,000 has been raised at British Polo Days so far.

The British Polo Day is the only global polo network. The quick rise of the British Polo Day brand, and recognition of it, was evidenced with the UK Intellectual Property Office registering it as a Trade Mark in June 2013.

The British Polo Day team are committed to continue to service the British Luxury sector as they become a trusted source for purchasing decisions by international elites. The British Polo Day will become an irresistible means for the top polo teams and players to come together for competition globally additionally British Polo Day will continue to innovate and pioneer unique platforms for British luxury brands.
